Frequently Asked Questions

Do you accept insurance?

**If your employment has been directly impacted by COVID-19, please inquire about my sliding scale fees **

I currently accept UnitedHealthCare (Optum) , Aetna, ComPsych, and Lyra . Besides this, I am considered an out-of-network provider but can accept HSA and FSA cards as forms of payment. Depending on your insurance benefits, it is possible that you can receive a reimbursement of 60%-100%. I do my best to make the process of submitting an out-of-network claim as easy as possible. I will provide you with a receipt and encourage you to look into Mentaya which is a company that will take care of out-of-network claims for you. ( You are responsible to pay a 5% fee per claim submitted. ) Here is the website to complete submission: Mentaya Claim Submission

It is recommended that you ask the following questions to your insurance provider to help you understand your benefits:

  • Does my health insurance plan include out-of-network mental health benefits?

  • What is my out-of-network reimbursement rate?

  • Do I have a deductible? If so, what is it? After it is met, what is the reimbursement rate?

  • Does my deductible renew at the start of the new year or contract year?

  • Is there a limit to the amount of out-of-network sessions I have?

What are your session fees?

Sessions are $135. I do offer a sliding scale to those that are facing financial hardships- these slots are limited.

How long are sessions?

Sessions run for 45-55 minutes. However ,if you feel you need more time, that can be arranged for up to 90 minutes. If you would like less, 30 minutes is the minimum session length.

Is there parking?

Yes, there is a free parking lot directly behind the building. If that happens to be full, there is street parking on Monroe Street. However, sessions are current all virtual via video or phone.

I’ve never done therapy before, what can I expect?

It can be intimidating to take the first step but a very valuable one. I strive to make the environment as comfortable as possible. I tend to make my dialogue free-flowing and more of a conversation than a hyper-analytical approach. My goal is for you to be relaxed and feel safe to share the areas you want to work on. We work together to identify the best fit for the goals you are trying to achieve. There is no fixed agenda but rather a focus on goals, problem solving, and digging deep to grow. I want the space to be one you look forward to returning to!

What is your area of expertise?

I have a lot of experience working with those struggling with anxiety of all levels. Anxiety is closely connected to control and even though Anxiety looks different in each person- a lack of control is typically at the base of it. My goal is to identify what the area where loss of control is being experienced and help you get “unstuck” and regain power. Facing fears is part of this process. Tying in attachment theory related to relationships of all kinds is an area that I utilize as well. With this theory, I incorporate how Childhood- Emotional Neglect (CEN) can contribute to faulty attachment styles. More recently, I have been working with the birthing population and since becoming a mom myself this has me “front row and center” in all the demands and emotions that come with being a parent. I have completed all of the training for my Perinatal Mental Health Certification and working towards taking my exam in the coming months.

What if I feel you aren’t the best fit for me?

Totally understandable that this could happen. At the end of our free 30 minute initial consult, if you don’t feel like my style or personality is best for you, I encourage and welcome that transparency! If you do feel this way, I would like to help connect you with someone else within my counseling network that may be a better fit. The great thing about the counseling field is that I usually know another therapist that is always willing and eager to help when I may need to refer out! I understand the challenge to find a therapist in the first place so I would hope to help alleviate this barrier if you don’t feel a fit with me.

When working together, what should I do if an emergency comes up?

I cannot guaranteed being available outside of business hours ( Monday- Wednesday 8am-3pm, Thursday 8am-2pm) . If the situation cannot be self-managed, I encourage calling your local crisis line for assistance and have this number easily accessible. If this is something you are concerned about happening, we can create a safety plan in session to have if needed.
